1 killed, another severely injured in New Year’s Day shooting in Calgary

The Calgary Police stated Sunday that a shooting in the Northwest Calgary region on New Year’s Day left one man dead and another severely injured.

The shooting occurred at around 3:40 a.m. Sunday morning 6900 block of Ranchero Road N.W., according to Calgary Police. Officers who arrived at the location responding to the shooting reportedly found two men severely injured from gunshot wounds. While one of the men was supposedly pronounced dead at the scene, the other was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.

Homicide investigators are probing the incident and gathering CCTV footage and witness information, Authorities believe that the shooting was targeted. No arrests have been made in relation to the shooting so far.

The identity of the deceased in the shooting, which marked Calgary’s first homicide in 2023, is yet to be released. A neighbour, however, while speaking to media outlets stated that the man had recently moved from Saskatchewan to Calgary and was looking for a job.
