A third batch of 112 Indian nationals deported from the United States arrived at Amritsar airport late Sunday night, following a previous group of 119 deportees who landed on Saturday at 11:40 PM. The deportations are part of the US administration’s intensified crackdown on illegal immigration, sources said, with repatriations expected to continue every two weeks until all undocumented migrants are returned.

According to officials, of the 119 individuals repatriated on Saturday, a majority—100 people—hailed from Punjab and Haryana. Punjab accounted for 67 deportees, while Haryana had 33. The remaining included eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two each from Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

A senior police official confirmed that deportees from Goa, Gujarat, and Maharashtra were scheduled for onward travel to their respective states via early morning flights.

Allegations of Mistreatment Spark Outrage

The deportations have ignited fresh controversy over alleged mistreatment of repatriated Indian nationals. According to The Indian Express, many of the deportees in the latest batch were reportedly handcuffed and shackled during their return.

The issue has drawn sharp political reactions in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to the US, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safe return of Indian immigrants facing deportation. However, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly criticized the handling of the situation, stating, “While Modi was shaking hands with his friend Donald Trump, Indian citizens were being deported in chains on a military aircraft. The chained Indians being sent back are Trump’s return gift to Modi.”

As deportation flights continue, concerns over the treatment of Indian migrants in US detention facilities are growing, with human rights advocates and political leaders demanding more humane repatriation processes.
