13-year-old charged after pointing a toy gun at students in school’s bathroom

After reportedly pointing what turned out to be a fake gun at two other pupils and demanding money from them in a Toronto middle school bathroom, a 13-year-old boy has been charged with two charges of robbery with a weapon, according to police.

The two distinct events that occurred on Tuesday at Lanor Junior Middle School, which is situated at 450 Lanor Ave., just east of Brown’s Line and south of the Gardiner Expressway, did not result in any injuries. On February 8th, the young man is scheduled to appear in court.

In the restroom, the child allegedly pointed what seemed to be a gun and demanded money from one pupil.

Robert Nigro, the school’s principal, said in a letter to parents and guardians that he had taken the toy gun away from the student. “Yesterday, I was told by a student near the time of dismissal that he’d been shown a toy cap gun in the boys’ bathroom. This allegation was taken very seriously, Nigro said. He further added, “As this matter is currently under police investigation, we are not able to share much additional information at this time, but please rest assured we are taking every step, in line with our policies and procedures, to ensure our school remains a safe learning and work environment for students and staff.”
