4 arrested for running pharmaceutical drug ring from Ludhiana jail

The Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested four persons in relation to running a cartel of pharmaceutical opioids from the Central jail in Ludhiana, according to media reports. 5.31 lakh pharmaceutical opioids were also confiscated from the possession of the arrested, the police stated.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ropar Range, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar detailed that the Fatehgarh police had arrested one of the accused, identified as Sunny Kumar, after recovering 19,590 intoxicant tablets from him.

During the preliminary investigation, according to SSP Fatehgarh Sahib Dr Ravjot Grewal, Kumar revealed that he supplied the pharmaceutical tablets on the instructions of two of the other arrested, Eshaan Gupta and Ravi Kumar, who were lodged at the Central Jail in Ludhiana. The two would reportedly communicate with Kumar using mobile phones from the jail. A mobile has since been recovered, according to the police.

A fourth accused, identified as Ranjit Singh alias Rinku of Ludhiana, has also been arrested. More tablets were recovered after an investigation with Ranjit, according to DGP Bhullar.

“On accused Ranjit Rinku’s disclosures, the Police teams have recovered 3.60 lakh tablets of Lomotil and 1.51 lakh tablets of Tramadol from pinpointed locations in Ludhiana,” the DGP stated.

Further investigations to ascertain the main supplier are underway, SSP Grewal stated to media outlets.
