The westbound lanes of Hwy 401 have been shut down near Whitby because of an overhead sign falling on the roadway.

As per the officer, the collision took place at around 8 a.m., near Brock Street.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said, “This will take some time to remedy. It will require some heavy equipment to come in, a crane to come in to remove the sign from the highway.”

Images being shared from the scene show the sign fallen and lying across the highway leading to a complete blockage of traffic. This has further caused a stall of a long line of cars on the stretch.
