Halifax police have charged a 19-year-old woman with attempted murder after a shocking attack on a 6-year-old child in the city’s downtown core.
The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, when officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the 1900 block of Barrington Street. Upon arrival, police found the young victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The child was rushed to the IWK Health Centre with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, identified as Elliott Chorny, was arrested at the scene. Initially charged with aggravated assault, she now faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace. Chorny is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court on Monday morning.
