A 65-year-old Schomberg, Ontario, man who was out walking his dog is currently fighting for his life after being shot 13 times in an unprovoked attack after making a gesture to a speeding car to slow down, according to police.

On Tuesday, shortly after 8:30 a.m., a shooting took place on Centre Street between Rebellion Way and Church Street that has left the victim fighting for his life.

According to police, the man was out walking his dog when a white SUV passed him quickly, causing him to wave at the car.

The car turned around and drove back to the victim. A passenger in the front seat with a gun fired several shots at the man, hitting him several times.

Before the car left the scene, police reported that a total of 13 shots had been fired at the individual.

Sgt. Clint Whitney, a spokesman for the York Regional Police, told CTV News Toronto on Wednesday that the attack seemed to be “totally random” and that the suspects only objected to the man because he motioned for them to slow down.

The victim’s status is still critical as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Whitney.

In an effort to find at least two suspects who were allegedly inside the car at the time, police posted video of the suspect vehicle on Tuesday.

It is said that the Vehicle is white and could be a four-door Lexus RX 350. According to Killby, the shooter had “light brown complexion and is tanned.”

The other suspect’s identity and description are still a secret.

Insp. James Killby stated in a press release on Tuesday that the incident “was a cowardly act — a cowardly violent conduct against the victim who was doing nothing more than enjoying the morning and walking his dog in the area for exercise.”
