A life-altering lottery ticket with a value of $70 million is on the verge of expiring tonight if left unclaimed. The Lotto Max ticket was purchased in Scarborough nearly a year ago, and once the clock strikes midnight on Wednesday, its validity will cease.

As per the regulations, lottery players have a one-year window from the draw date to collect their winnings; otherwise, the prize becomes invalid. Tony Bitonti, the spokesperson for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission, expressed that this particular ticket will be the largest unclaimed prize in the history of Canadian lotteries. “I’m hoping that we do not make the record books. But you never know, time is quickly ticking away, and there’s still a chance, but you never know,” shared Bitonti with Source on Tuesday.

The final buzzer will sound at precisely 10:30 p.m. tonight, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Thus far, a staggering number of 1,800 individuals have stepped forward in an attempt to claim the prize. Among them, 800 assert that they have misplaced the ticket. However, none have been able to prove rightful ownership.

Information regarding the ticket holder is scarce, but Bitonti disclosed one noteworthy detail: the ticket has never been verified, suggesting that it might have been left in a pair of jeans’ pocket or mistakenly discarded. “That’s what makes it very unusual,” remarked Bitonti. “Again, this is pure speculation at this point because somebody could simply come in and validate that ticket tomorrow.”
