On New Year’s Eve, Brampton’s bylaw officers issued thousands of dollars in tickets.

Back in November, the city made changes to the fireworks bylaw, which implemented a ban on use, sale, and purchase of fireworks or explosives within the limits of Brampton. This action was taken after the city received a record number of complaints regarding personal use of fireworks during Diwali.

City’s spokesperson informed that there were about 25 calls regarding firework complaints, which is a slight drop from last year with 28 calls.

As per the new by-law, using fireworks can lead up to a minimum fine of $500 and out of the 25 complaints received, five were issued tickets.

Brampton’s newly elected councilor for ward 3&4, Dennis Keenan put forth the motion of banning fireworks, which was seconded by Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor. The motion was then passed unanimously by the council.
