As firemen battled to put out a fire at a restaurant, businesses in downtown Brampton were evacuated.

According to Peel Regional Police, the blaze started at a restaurant on Queen Street West and George Street in Brampton at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) personnel can be seen gathered in front of the Freshly Thai restaurant on Queen Street West in photos taken at the site.

Police said businesses in the neighbourhood have been evacuated, but no injuries have been reported. While rescue personnel are on the site, police have also blocked off roads adjacent to the fire.

Between Elizabeth St. and George St., both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Queen St. were shut down for many hours; however, BFES Chief Bill Boyes said that the fire was put out by noon.

UPDATE: According to Peel Regional Police, Queen Street West between Elizabeth and George streets was reopened at 2:45 p.m.
