Federal Minimum Wage Increasing to 16.65 from April 1st

On April 1, the federal minimum wage will increase to $16.65 per hour, up from the previous rate of $15.55.

On April 1, the federal minimum wage will increase to $16.65 per hour, up from the previous rate of $15.55. The increase is based on the 6.8% rise in the consumer price index in 2022, according to the government.

The federal minimum wage is applicable to the federally regulated private sectors, which includes banks, courier services, postal services, and interprovincial transportation via rail, road, and marine. The federal government established a minimum wage of $15 per hour in 2021 and raises it each year in accordance with inflation.

These adjustments are made annually on April 1. Employers must follow the higher amount if the provincial or territorial minimum wage rate is higher than the federal rate.
