Southern Ontario Braces for Potentially Powerful Weather System and Severe Thunderstorm Threat

Southern Ontario is bracing for the arrival of a potentially powerful weather system on Wednesday, which could bring a significant threat of severe thunderstorms. The storm is expected to take different forms in different parts of the province. Winter storm warnings have been issued for northwestern Ontario, including Thunder Bay, and freezing rain warnings have been issued for northeastern to eastern Ontario, where up to 15 mm of ice accumulation, power outages, and tree damage are possible.

The City of Ottawa is also taking precautions in preparation for a possible ice storm on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Residents in southern Ontario, on the other hand, can expect heavy rain, gusty winds, and a significant threat of flooding.

The Weather Network has identified thunderstorm-prone areas ranging from northeastern Ontario to cottage country and to the southwest. Thunderstorms are expected to be most likely west of the Greater Toronto Area, from Niagara Region to Windsor.

A strong Colorado low with early summer-like temperatures are expected to bring a severe thunderstorm threat to southern Ontario, according to The Weather Network.

On Wednesday, Toronto could receive up to 25 mm of rain. The rain should clear out by the evening, allowing for a stretch of sunny weather into the long weekend.

The Easter weekend weather forecast calls for mostly sunny skies until Monday when rain returns.
