Bonnie Crombie, the current mayor of Mississauga, is expected to formally announce her candidacy for the Ontario Liberal Leadership at an event taking place this Wednesday.

As per sources, a special event will be held in Mississauga on Wednesday, June 14th, where Bonnie Crombie will be joined by Ontario Liberals and members of the community in support of her bid for the leadership.

On May 22, Mayor Bonnie Crombie revealed that she was exploring the possibility of running for the leadership of the Ontario Liberal party. With her extensive experience as the mayor of Mississauga since 2014 and her previous role as a federal Liberal Member of Parliament from 2008 to 2011, Crombie brings a wealth of political knowledge to the table.

Confirming weeks of speculation, it was announced yesterday that Crombie will indeed be running for the leadership position. She has already launched her campaign website, BonnieForLeader.ca, as part of her efforts to secure the party’s support.

Notably, former leader Steven Del Duca, who currently serves as the mayor of Vaughan, created a vacancy in the party leadership when he resigned following the unsuccessful campaign that resulted in the Liberals failing to secure official party status for the second consecutive vote.

Another contender for the Ontario Liberal leadership is federal MP Nate Erskine-Smith, who has declared his intention to seek the position.

The party is scheduled to announce its new leader on December 2. Until then, Bonnie Crombie and other candidates will engage in a competitive campaign to gain the party’s backing and secure the leadership role.
