Brampton can rejoice as Zellers, the nostalgic Canadian retail store, will soon make its return to the town. Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) has officially confirmed that a Zellers shop will be opening within its Bay store located in Bramalea City Centre. This decision follows the announcement of the impending closure of the Hudson’s Bay store at Burlington Centre in Burlington, slated for June 2024.

After the closure of the Bay store in Burlington Centre, the Zellers shop-in-store currently situated there will be relocated to Brampton’s Bramalea City Centre in the coming year. This move will fill the void left by the departure of Zellers from the mall in 2013, with the last remaining stores shutting down in 2020.

In March, HBC initiated the reintroduction of Zellers shops in 25 communities across Ontario and Alberta, incorporating them within select Hudson’s Bay stores. The new Zellers shops focus on providing everyday low prices for kitchen and bath essentials, accent furniture, home decor, organization and storage solutions, baby and kids toys and apparel, as well as pet supplies and basic clothing for men and women.

Following the successful launch in March, HBC has announced plans for an additional 20 pop-up Zellers locations, set to open in August. The first of these pop-ups will be established at Hudson’s Bay flagship store on Queen St. in Toronto. In response to the news of Zellers’ return, the Peel Archives shared a nostalgic video snapshot of the old Zellers location at Bramalea City Centre from the early 2000s.

While the Zellers shop-in-store concept occupies a smaller space of 8,000 to 10,000 square feet, it does not accommodate the classic in-store diner. However, HBC has brought back some nostalgic elements by introducing the Zellers Diner on Wheels, which made stops at various store locations during the initial opening days.

HBC explained that the decision to close the Burlington Centre location was influenced by its close proximity to another Hudson’s Bay store in Mapleview Mall, located just a few kilometers away. In a statement to Insauga.com, HBC emphasized that although such decisions are difficult, they are necessary to align with market changes and their vision for the future. The company also expressed its commitment to treating all associates with respect and fairness throughout this process, exploring transfer opportunities wherever feasible.
