‘Disappointed And Angry’, Says Mayor Crombie After Reports On Peel Region Dissolution Reconsideration
Last June, the government passed Bill 112, known as the Hazel McCallion Act, facilitating the breakup of Peel Region by 2025.
The mayor of Mississauga Bonnie Crombie in a press conference on Wednesday Dec 6, has emphasized the importance of dissolving Peel Region and urged the Doug Ford government to provide clarity promptly amid reports that the province may be reconsidering its decision.
Mayor Bonnie Crombie expressed her disappointment, stating, “I’m deeply disappointed and frankly angry for the waste of time and resources.” She called on Premier Doug Ford to do the right thing for taxpayers, former mayor Hazel McCallion, and all residents living in uncertainty.
Former mayor McCallion advocated for Mississauga’s separation from Peel Region during her 36-year tenure, a cause continued by Mayor Crombie.
Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Paul Calandra, speaking earlier, mentioned that no decisions had been made on the potential dissolution. He stated, “We’re doing a lot of due diligence to see how it would be done, what the cost would be, but I’ve made no decision on that yet.”
