$68M Lottery Winner Says He Wants To Continue His Job Of Housekeeping

A Toronto resident, who secured a $68 million lottery jackpot, expresses his intention “to be the same” person and has no plans to quit working.

Noel Patricio emerged victorious in the record-breaking Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball jackpot during the September 27 draw, marking it as the largest jackpot in the history of Lotto 6/49.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) revealed in a news release on Thursday that Patricio held the winning ticket.

Despite his newfound fortune, Patricio is committed to continuing his work in housekeeping, albeit with plans to work “a little bit less.” He stated, “I love the work I do and the people I work with, and that makes my two jobs so meaningful to me. I want to be the same Noel.”

According to the OLG release, Patricio, a regular player of Lotto 6/49, purchased his ticket during a break from work. Upon discovering that the winning ticket was bought in Toronto, he checked his ticket using the OLG app.

“I thought I won $68,000 and called my sister to tell her what I won,” he recalled. “She asked me to count the zeroes, and I told her there were six of them. That’s when she corrected me and said, ‘That’s $68 million!’ I was in shock, but I knew I still had work to do, so I snuck into the bathroom to keep checking the winning numbers with my sister still on the phone.”

Throughout the day, Patricio continued working, discreetly checking his ticket in the bathroom. He expressed his disbelief, stating, “All I could think was, ‘Is this a joke? Is this real? Will I wake up from this dream?’ I finished my first job and checked my ticket several more times between my next shift – it was so unbelievable.”

Before claiming the prize, Patricio took his time to ensure everything was “in place.” He kept the win confidential, only sharing the news with his immediate family. The winning ticket was purchased at Hasty Market on Church Street in Toronto.
