Heavy Snow Warning Issued for Brampton, Mississauga And Caledon

A Winter Weather Travel Advisory has been issued for Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon by Environment Canada.

The alert, issued on Monday, predicts adverse weather conditions extending from Monday night to Tuesday morning (Dec. 18-19). The “hazards” outlined in the advisory include expected snowfall amounts of up to eight centimetres in Mississauga and Brampton and five to 10 centimetres in Caledon. These conditions are accompanied by reduced visibility due to heavy snow, local blowing snow, and slippery road conditions.

According to the advisory for Peel residents, rain showers are anticipated to transition rapidly to snow in the afternoon or evening, coinciding with the arrival of colder air in southern Ontario. The advisory warns of the potential for heavy snowfall during the evening or overnight, coupled with increasing northwest winds gusting from 50 to 60 km/h, leading to localized blowing snow in exposed areas.

The National Weather Agency emphasizes that “travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather” and urges residents to “be prepared” to adapt their driving to evolving road conditions.

In the event of reduced visibility while driving, the advisory advises motorists to “slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.”

This advisory coincides with ongoing road closures in the Peel region, particularly in Mississauga and Brampton.
