The Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF), in partnership with Statistics Canada, is initiating a series of workshops addressing hate crimes across various Canadian cities.
These workshops, spanning two days, are slated to be held in twelve cities nationwide. The first day will see Statistics Canada delivering insights to local law enforcement on pivotal topics like identifying hate crimes, employing standardized police reporting via the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey, and accessing relevant resources.
The second day, spearheaded by the CRRF, will facilitate networking opportunities between law enforcement and community organizations aimed at combatting hate and fostering open dialogue. The objective of these workshops is to empower communities and equip law enforcement agencies with the tools to identify hate crimes effectively.
“The government is steadfast in its stance against the surge in hate crimes. We take pride in endorsing initiatives such as this inaugural nationwide training series on hate crimes. These efforts aim to unite communities and foster collaboration with law enforcement. It’s not just about combating hate; it’s about upholding our values and forging a future where every Canadian feels secure and respected. Workshop by workshop, we’re forging a more resilient, inclusive, and just nation for all.” – The Honourable Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities
“The CRRF has been actively involved in the prevention and mitigation of hate crimes in Canada. These workshops serve as a vital extension of our ongoing efforts to comprehend the systemic hurdles and deficiencies in addressing hate crimes and incidents in Canada. They also serve to connect individuals with indispensable, community-driven tools and resources.” – Mohammed Hashim, CEO of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation
