Residents of the Greater Toronto Area are bracing for potentially heavy rainfall, as Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning. The federal weather agency cautions that the region could experience over 50 mm of rain due to a moisture-rich storm system moving into the area.

The showers are expected to begin late Tuesday afternoon or evening, continuing into Wednesday morning. Environment Canada warns that some areas could see periods of intense rainfall, along with the risk of thunderstorms as unstable air moves in.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roads,” the agency said. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible, so residents should exercise caution.”

Drivers are advised to be particularly mindful of road conditions, as the rain may make driving hazardous. The GTA’s urban landscape, with its concrete surfaces and poor drainage areas, could exacerbate the flooding risk.

Keep an eye on updated weather alerts, and be prepared for potential disruptions, especially during peak commuting hours.
