A Peel Regional Police officer has been suspended following his involvement in a contentious protest outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple in Brampton on Sunday, drawing widespread attention on social media. The police force confirmed the suspension in a statement, highlighting their awareness of a video that depicts the officer participating in the demonstration.
“We are aware of a video circulating on social media that shows an off-duty Peel Police officer involved in a demonstration,” said Media Relations Officer Richard Chin. “This officer has since been suspended in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act. The protest escalated into violence as Indian consular officials arrived at the Hindu temple, leading to three individuals being charged by Peel Regional Police. Footage from the event indicates that demonstrators were brandishing banners advocating for Khalistan. Clashes reportedly erupted between these demonstrators and counter-protesters, with some waving the Indian national flag, resulting in fistfights and physical altercations on the temple grounds.
