17 Pakistani nationals repatriated by India

Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi on Friday stated that Indian authorities repatriated 17 Pakistani nationals imprisoned in the country.

Taking to Twitter, Pakistan’s High Commission tweeted, “17 [Pakistani] nationals imprisoned in India were repatriated today via Attari-Wagah border after hectic efforts of @PakinIndia & @ForeignOffice & cooperation of Indian side. Our efforts will continue to repatriate all [Pakistani] prisoners from India on completion of their sentences.”

The prisoners were repatriated via the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar. The border, on Thursday, saw celebrations for Republic day wherein the Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged greetings and sweets.

India, on January 1, shared with the neighbouring country a list of 339 Pakistani civilian prisoners and 95 Pakistani fishermen in Indian custody, according to media reports. Pakistan also reportedly shared a list of 51 civilian prisoners and 654 fishermen in Pakistan’s custody who are Indians or believed to be Indians.
