4, including 3-month-old, dead, 17 injured in pickup vehicle-bus collision on Sangrur-Patiala road

A Bolero pickup truck hitting a bus from the back at Kalaudi bus stand on the Sangrur-Patiala road on Sunday led to the demise of four, including a 3-month-old child, and sent 17 other to the hospital with critical injuries, according to media reports.

On its way to Moga from Patiala the Bolero pickup truck, for reasons yet to be ascertained, hit the bus from the back at Kalaudi bus stand. A case in relation to the accident has since been registered and the authorities are trying to find out if the bus was stationary when the accident occurred or if the bus driver applied the brakes at the time, according to media reports.

Dr Kirpal Singh, Senior Medical Officer, stated of the accident, “Four people were brought dead while 17 others were injured. Out of injured, we have referred three to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, while remaining are under treatment at Sangrur Civil Hospital.”

“The deceased have been identified as three-month-old Sonpari, Charanjit Kaur, Shami Kaur and Jarnail Singh. We have registered a case against Major Singh, who was driving the PRTC bus. Further investigations are on,” Investigation officer ASI Suresh Kumar detailed about the incident at the bus stand on Sunday.
