40 New Speed Cameras Installed in Brampton as Part of Automated Speed Enforcement Program

To prevent fraud, Brampton reminds residents that ASE tickets are only sent via mail and never by text.

The City of Brampton has taken a major step forward in promoting road safety by installing 40 additional Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras across multiple neighborhoods. This expansion brings Brampton’s ASE program to 110 active camera sites, inching closer to the city’s target of 185 cameras by summer 2025. With one of Ontario’s most extensive ASE rollouts, Brampton is committed to making streets safer through technology, speed compliance, and traffic regulation.

The recent deployment covers key areas across Wards 1 through 10, with locations like Ken Whillans Drive, Heart Lake Road, Central Park Drive, and more now hosting ASE cameras to deter speeding. The city’s accelerated ASE implementation outpaces similar programs in other municipalities, setting a precedent for rapid, city-wide speed enforcement.

Automated Speed Enforcement cameras, equipped with both camera and speed measurement technology, capture and ticket speeding vehicles, reinforcing the city’s commitment to public safety. ASE complements other road safety initiatives in Brampton, such as Community Safety Zones, traffic calming measures, and ongoing police enforcement. According to city data, these combined efforts have reduced speeds by an average of 6.5 km/h, with some locations seeing reductions as high as 18 km/h.

However, recent ASE captures highlight the need for stricter enforcement. For instance, a vehicle was caught traveling at an alarming 146 km/h near Esker Lake Public School, where the speed limit is 40 km/h. In another case, a vehicle clocked almost 90 km/h over the limit on Rutherford Road. Such incidents underscore the importance of ASE in tackling extreme speeding and safeguarding school zones and residential neighborhoods.

The ASE program is part of Brampton’s broader traffic safety strategy. Other initiatives include a Neighbourhood Speed Reduction Program, which lowered speed limits to 40 km/h in five neighborhoods identified in speed studies. The city also established 187 Community Safety Zones, strategically located near schools, parks, playgrounds, and other sensitive areas, where enhanced measures protect vulnerable road users.

To prevent fraud, Brampton reminds residents that ASE tickets are only sent via mail and never by text. Any text messages claiming to issue fines should be disregarded, and suspicious texts reported to Peel Regional Police.

Brampton’s commitment to proactive road safety and responsible driving behavior reinforces its goal of a safer, more livable city. Through continued investments in ASE cameras and community-focused traffic initiatives, Brampton is ensuring a safer environment for all road users.
