Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav, a day after supporters of ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh laid siege around the Ajnala Police station, about 25 km from Amritsar, on Friday stated to media outlets that appropriate action would be taken against those involved in Thursday’s events.
“As far as yesterday’s incident is concerned, appropriate action will be taken. Video footage is being analyzed. SP has been injured with 11 stitches. Five other Police personnel were also injured. Their statement will be recorded and further legal action will be taken,” DGP Yadav detailed to media outlets on Friday.
“Police worked with utmost restraint to maintain the dignity of Guru Granth Sahib. Attacking the Police under its cover was an act of cowardice,” the Punjab Police opined further.
Meanwhile, Former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief AS Dulat, when asked about the Ajnala clash, cautioned against “misgovernance” in the “sensitive border state” of Punjab, citing that it needs “empathy” and can’t be “governed from Delhi”.
“I am of the firm belief that neither Punjab nor Kashmir can be governed from Delhi. People are resentful of it…Though Bhagwant Mann is a decent person, he is not competent…Kejriwal can’t run Punjab,” Former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief AS Dulat stated to media outlets during an interview.
