Akshay Kumar Renounces Canadian Passport
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has renounced his Canadian passport, stating India means everything to him. The actor who has been facing criticism in India over his Canadian citizenship has shared that he feels bad when people say things without knowing the reason behind it. Kumar shared he had applied for a Canadian passport when his Bollywood career was failing.
On the first episode of the new season of Seedhi Baat on Aajtak, Akshay Kumar spoke about his Canadian citizenship and shared that he has already applied for a change of passport. “India is everything to me… Whatever I have earned, whatever I have gained is from here. And I’m fortunate that I get a chance to give back. You feel bad when people say things without knowing anything…,” he said.
Talking about why he applied for Canadian citizenship in the first place, the actor revealed that in the 1990s, he acted in more than 15 movies that failed. He felt as if his career as an actor was going nowhere so on the suggestion of a friend who was already in Canada, he applied and got accepted.
“I thought that ‘bhai, my films are not working and one has to work’. I went there for work. My friend was in Canada and he said, ‘come here’. I applied and I got in,” the actor shared. He went on to say, “I had just two films left for release and it is just luck that they both became super hit. My friend said, ‘go back, start working again’. I got some more films and I kept getting more work. I forgot that I had the passport. I never thought that I should get this passport changed but now yes, I have applied to get my passport changed, and once I get the renounced status from Canada..”
Akshay Kumar’s Canadian citizenship became the topic of controversy back in 2019 after his interview with PM Narendra Modi.
