Algoma University President and Vice-Chancellor Asima Vezina has been named as the 2024 Brampton Board of Trade Business Person of the Year. Vezina released the following statement:
“I am humbled and honoured to be recognized as the 2024 Brampton Business Person of the Year by the Brampton Board of Trade. But this is not a personal achievement — it’s a testament to how Algoma University has become an integral part of Brampton.
We have a shared commitment to building up Brampton’s economy. And we have a shared dedication to giving every Bramptonian the opportunity to change their lives with a university education, without having to leave the city.
We are proud to be deeply rooted in the community, contributing to its growth and prosperity.
We know that Algoma University’s injection of $1.5 billion into the local economy is important — but we also believe being a job creator and a leader in equity, diversity, and inclusion is what makes Algoma University a catalyst for positive social and cultural change.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the Brampton Board of Trade for this honour, and for your ongoing work to build up Brampton.”
