Amritpal Singh is still on the run from the police as new information about his escape has been shared. He is said to have changed five vehicles within a span of 12 hours in order to escape from the police. He also stole a motorcycle at gunpoint after his own run out of fuel.
Punjab police shared new details on the Amritpal Singh case and said that he changed five vehicles in 12 hours. The crackdown on the leader of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ activist group started on Saturday last week which was just weeks after his supporters broke into a police station with swords and firearms demanding the release of one of their associates.
While trying to escape the police, Singh was first seen in a Mercedes SUV after which he switched to a Maruti Brezza. Till this time, he was in his religious robes, but he changed into a shirt and western attire while in the car. He then stopped at Nangal Ambiyan and got on a Bajaj Platina motorcycle.
The bike ran out of fuel after which he got on a diesel-run three-wheeler along with his bike and his associate Pappal Preet in Darapur. The duo then stole a Hero Splendor motorcycle at gunpoint and carried on their journey. CCTV footage from 6:46 pm on March 18 shows the duo fleeing on the stolen bike in Ludhiana’s Sheikhupur. The stolen motorcycle was recovered after the owner filed a complaint.
Notably, the police has recovered the three other vehicles that he used to escape as well.
This is the sixth day since Amritpal Singh has been on the run. Recently, his NRI wife was questioned by the police. Furthermore, the wife of one of his associates, who had an NSA invoked against him and sent to Dibrugarh, Assam, filed a habeas corpus petition seeking her husband’s release from “illegal custody”.
