Bathinda Military Station Firing case: Personal enmity behind gruesome killings; know details
Bathinda: In a major breakthrough, Bathinda police arrested Army eyewitness in connection with the killing of four soldiers at the Bathinda Military Station. While addressing the media, Bathinda SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said the witness in the case, Mohan Desai, was the killer and has been arrested by the police. “Motive is personal,” said police. While addressing press conference, Punjab Police and Army officials stated that Gunner Desai Mohan confessed to his involvement in stealing an INSAS rifle and killing four of his colleagues. After committing crime, he had thrown rifle and seven bullets in a sewer pit inside the Cantonment.
Indian Army practices zero tolerance to such acts of indiscipline and is committed to ensure that the guilty will get punished as per law. All possible assistance is being provided to Punjab Police and other agencies for early conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, Bathinda police on Sunday summoned four Army personnel in connection with the investigation into the killing of four army jawans inside Bathinda jail. Notably, the firing at the Bathinda Military Station killed four soldiers.
The Army said four Army jawans of an artillery unit, who have been identified as Gunners Sagar Banne (25), Kamalesh R (24), Yogeshkumar J (24) and Santosh M Nagaral (25), succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the incident. The firing took place at around 4:35 am on Wednesday. Police had ruled out terror angle in the shooting.
A search operation was launched soon after the incident. In a statement, the Army confirmed four deaths in the firing. As per the FIR, one of them was carrying an INSAS rifle and the other an axe. The bodies bore bullet marks. It is suspected that an INSAS rifle, which was reported missing along with 28 rounds earlier this week, was used in the firing.
