By supporting GT20, the city aims to invigorate the local economy and promote community engagement.
Brampton is preparing to welcome the third consecutive season of GT20 Canada, commencing on July 25, 2024. Known for its outstanding cricket infrastructure, Brampton has firmly positioned itself as North America’s premier cricketing hub. This marquee T20 cricket league has called Brampton home since its second edition in 2019, and the city’s commitment to enhancing the local economy and fostering community spirit through cricket remains strong.
Brampton, named after its counterpart in England, is Canada’s ninth most populous city. By supporting GT20, the city aims to invigorate the local economy and promote community engagement. This inclusive cricket celebration ensures everyone feels part of the excitement.
Mayor Patrick Brown’s unwavering support over the years has been instrumental in embedding GT20 Canada into Brampton’s culture and economy. His efforts have also catalyzed significant infrastructure improvements, allowing local players to engage with international cricket stars, thereby elevating the sport’s profile in Canada.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Mayor Brown welcomed cricket fans, stating, “Cricket has a unique power to unite and inspire, holding a special place in our community. We’re thrilled to host the GT20 Canada tournament for the third time right here in Brampton. Our continued investment in new cricket amenities, advancing youth development opportunities such as the new Youth Cricket League and the exciting City Lands project to bring a state-of-the-art stadium to our city reinforces Brampton’s position as the cricket capital of Canada. We are connecting the next generation to the sport and look forward to welcoming fans from across North America to witness some spectacular cricket action.”
Gurmeet Singh Bhamrah, Founder of GT20 Canada, highlighted the growing bond between the league and Brampton, saying, “The relationship between Brampton and GT20 Canada has evolved significantly with each season. Brampton has proven to be an ideal home for cricket in Canada, and with the addition of global superstars from the cricketing world, we anticipate attracting fans from across North America. This convergence is poised to have a substantial impact on both business and tourism, with GT20 being a catalyst to the growth of the game for Canada.”
This year, Brampton announced plans to develop two additional cricket fields and launch a Youth Cricket League. The city also aims to build a world-class, international-standard cricket stadium, encouraging more homegrown talent to pursue and excel in cricket.
In light of Canada’s historic debut at the recent T20 global event and cricket’s rapid growth as the country’s fastest-growing sport, GT20 Canada continues to provide a vital platform for showcasing world-class cricket. The league not only highlights top-tier talent but also significantly drives the sport’s expansion and promotion across Canada.
