Brampton Woman Faces Charges After Traffic Stop Uncovers Cash and Suspected Cocaine
A Brampton woman is facing charges following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of suspected cocaine and over $20,000 in cash. The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. when Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a traffic stop on Highway 17 near Batchawana Bay Beach, approximately 70 kilometers north of Sault Ste. Marie.
During the routine traffic stop, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie detachment, assisted by a canine unit, were called to the scene. Upon conducting a thorough search, the authorities uncovered over $20,000 in Canadian currency, more than three grams of suspected cocaine valued at over $200, four cell phones, and one digital scale.
As a result of the findings, 34-year-old Melissa Shrugold from Brampton has been charged with one count of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The accused is scheduled to appear in Sault Ste. Marie court on August 21 to respond to the charges. It’s essential to note that none of the allegations have been proven in court yet.
