Brothers Arrested for Harbouring Amritpal Singh, Wanted Posters Put at Railway Stations

Amritpal Singh is still on the run and police is conducting search operations in order to arrest him. In the latest attempt, Punjab police arrested two brothers from Hoshiarpur who reportedly helped Amritpal escape on March 28. Additionally, a search operation was recently conducted in Hanumangarh in Rajasthan, and wanted posters of Amritpal have been put up at multiple railway stations.

Police has arrested brothers Hardeep Singh (22) and Kuldip Singh (30) who are residents of Rajpur Bhaian village, Hoshiarpur, and they were produced before a court which ordered a four-day police remand for them. According to the police, when Amritpal escaped on March 28, he met the brothers in Marnaian village and they reportedly took him in, fed him, and gave him clothes.

Their lawyers Tanheer Singh Bariana and J.S. Bhutta said Hardeep and Kuldip were arrested under Section 212 (harbouring offender) of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly harbouring Amritpal Singh.

Another report states that a search operation was conducted in Hanumangarh in Rajasthan to nab Amritpal but it is unclear if the fugitive is there or not. He has been declared a wanted person and posters of him have been reportedly put up at Gurdaspur, Batala, Dinanagar, Dhariwal, and Pathankot railway stations. They read, “This picture is of Amritpal Singh, who is wanted in several cases. Anybody having information about him can contact us. The names of persons providing information will be kept secret.”

Recently, one of his aides, Papalpreet Singh, was arrested under the NSA registered against him. The police teams have been searching for Amritpal since March 18 and search operations have been going on in various parts of Punjab. Shortly after his escape, the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief appeared in two videos requesting a ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ from the Akal Takht leaders, who denied his request.
