Canada continues its winning spree in ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Hosts Canada continued its winning spree in the ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifiers with a five-wicket win over Bermuda while the second-placed USA raced to a mammoth total past 500-mark in its game against Argentina on Monday.

Dilraj Deol continues to be a star batter for the home team as he remained unbeaten on 80 to steer his team to a five-wicket win over Bermuda. Chasing a target of  203, Canada knocked off the required runs in 36.2 overs.

Besides Dilraj, other batters who did well include Jordan Mathews 34, Yuvraj Samra 19, Ajayveer Singh 26 and captain Jai Singh 20. Dilraj’s innings were studded with six boundaries and two towering sixes. Dilraj had scored a century in the opener against Argentina as well.

Batting first Bermuda made 202 in 40.2 overs, thanks to some good batting by Zeri Tomlinson 67,  Isaiah O Brien 62 and Dionte Dowling 20. For Canada, successful bowlers were Amalam Sivakumaran 3 for 23, Rohan Garg 2 for 24 and Aadil Dhull 2 for 41.

With this win, Canada has taken its points tally to six from three matches.

USA, with two wins from three matches, is placed second.

It recorded a smashing 450-run win over Argentina. Centuries by Bhayya Amit Mehta 136 and Rishi Ramesh 100 and good innings by Pranav ChettipalayanArunanNatesa 61, Amogh Reddy Arepally 48 and Utkarsh Srivastava 45 helped the US to post 515 for 8 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.

Ignacio Masquare 2 for 96 and Felipe Gaspar 2 for 71 were successful bowlers for Argentina. In reply, the South Americans folded up for 65 with Theo Vreugdenhil 18, Felipe Agustin 15 and Ignacio Masquare 10 reaching the double figures. Aarin Sushil Nadkarni was the chief wrecker of their innings as he finished with impressive figures of six for 21 while Aryan Satheesh claimed two for 17.

Prabhjot Singh
