Community to Gather to Honor Slain Brampton Man in Tragic Carjacking Incident
A candlelight vigil will be held this Saturday (July 22) at Mississauga’s Paramount Fine Foods Centre to remember Gurvinder Nath, a 24-year-old Brampton man who was kidnapped while delivering an overnight food order. Gurvinder, a hardworking international student from India who arrived in Canada in 2021, tragically died after being attacked and left for dead in the early hours of July 9 in the Britannia and Creditview Rds. area of northwest Mississauga.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m., and despite being rushed to the hospital, Gurvinder died on July 14. His family and friends described him as a determined business student struggling to make ends meet.
In recent years, the area where the carjacking occurred has been plagued by gun violence and shooting deaths, heightening the gravity of this tragic event.
According to Peel Regional Police, Gurvinder arrived at his destination when he was confronted by unknown suspects attempting to steal his vehicle. Following a physical altercation, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving Gurvinder severely injured on the roadside. His stolen car was later discovered near Old Derry and Old Creditview Rds., not far from the scene of the violent carjacking.
Authorities are still looking for the perpetrators of this heinous crime and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward with information. They can contact the police at 905-453-3311, ext. 3410, or reach out to Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds to repatriate Gurvinder’s body to India and cover funeral expenses as his loved ones and the community prepare to pay their respects during the upcoming candlelight vigil. Donors have been overwhelmingly generous, with over $80,000 already raised towards the $100,000 goal. Any extra funds will be given to Gurvinder’s family to help them through this difficult time.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, the community has banded together to offer condolences and support to Gurvinder’s family. Balram Krishan, the fundraiser’s organiser, expressed their heartfelt wishes for Gurvinder’s soul to rest in eternal peace and for his family to find strength and solace in the unwavering support from the community.
