Cracking Down on Illegal Trucking Operations in Caledon: Fines of $75,000 Imposed on Latest Offender

The Town of Caledon has been cracking down on illegal trucking operations, and recent complaints from residents have led to another successful case. A trucking company, known as 2423274 Ontario Inc., has been found guilty of operating illegally on a property zoned for agricultural use. Despite being fined a total of $75,000, this is just the latest illegal trucking operation in the Caledon area taken to court this year.

According to a release by the Town, complaints from locals led staff to investigate the property, which ultimately led to the company being fined for violating town bylaws. The Town has been actively investigating over 300 locations across Caledon, and has found that some 180 properties had at least one tractor-trailer or commercial vehicle parked or stored, indicating that the issue of illegal trucking is widespread in the area.

To combat this issue, Council passed a motion last year directing enforcement staff to work with industry partners to find solutions. The Town has been successful in shutting down several illegal trucking operations and imposing significant fines, which will hopefully serve as a deterrent for future violations.

Mark Sraga, Director of Building and Municipal Law Enforcement, has emphasized the importance of residents reporting suspected illegal activity. With the help of concerned locals, the Town can reduce the effects of illegal trucking in Caledon and ensure the safety of residents and motorists. It remains to be seen how effective these measures will be in the long run, but for now, the Town is taking a strong stance against illegal operations.
