A jury has found former U.S. president Donald Trump guilty on all charges in his hush-money trial in New York, marking the first time a U.S. president has been convicted of a felony.
The verdict was delivered just after 5:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, following two days of jury deliberations. Trump has been convicted of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
Trump will now need to meet with a probation officer in the coming days. The officer will prepare a sentencing report, which will include an assessment of whether Trump shows remorse.
Trump had pleaded not guilty and denied the alleged sexual encounter in 2006.
Judge Juan Merchan received a note from the jury foreman indicating a decision had been reached at 4:20 p.m. ET, just ten minutes before the jury was scheduled to be dismissed for the day.
