DoorDash Driver Caught Spitting in Customer’s Drink in Whitby, Food Delivery App Issues Statement
“This is for my two-year-old son, why would you spit in my drink?” the man demanded.
A disturbing incident involving a DoorDash driver spitting in a customer’s drink has caused widespread outrage after a video of the event surfaced on social media. The footage, shared by 6ixbuzzTV on Twitter, captured the driver tampering with a Booster Juice order moments before dropping it off on the customer’s doorstep.
The alarming video shows the delivery driver spitting into the drink before completing the delivery. Unbeknownst to him, the homeowner was monitoring the situation via a home security camera and promptly confronted the driver.
In the video, the concerned customer, who ordered the drink for his two-year-old son, approached the delivery driver with visible frustration. “This is for my two-year-old son, why would you spit in my drink?” the man demanded. Apologizing, the driver replied, “I’m so sorry, sir,” but failed to provide a reason for his actions when the man pressed further, “Why? I want to know why you did it.”
The situation escalated when the customer revealed that he had tipped the driver for the delivery, further deepening the confusion. “We tipped you, what’s the problem?” he asked. The driver, still unable to explain his behavior, responded, “No problem, sir. My kids are in my car.”
Visibly upset, the man responded, “Your kids are in your car, so you spit in my drink for my kids, right? Should I come spit in your kids’ water bottle?” The confrontation continued, with the man demanding that the driver drink the spit-filled beverage himself. The driver refused, attempting to deny opening the sealed drink, but the homeowner confirmed that his security camera had captured the entire act.
The confrontation ended with the customer instructing the driver to never return to his home. The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage across social media platforms and prompting an official response from DoorDash Canada.
In a statement provided to *Now Toronto*, DoorDash expressed deep regret over the incident, condemning the driver’s behavior. “This behaviour is completely unacceptable. DoorDash does not condone any tampering with customer orders, as food safety is one of our top priorities. The Dasher in question has been deactivated from our platform and the customer has been compensated for this appalling experience. We are also reaching out to the customer directly to learn more and further offer our continued support,” a DoorDash spokesperson said.
DoorDash’s Food Safety Handling Requirements clearly state that drivers are prohibited from tampering with any food orders, including opening containers or compromising the order in any way. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of following these guidelines to ensure customer safety and trust.
While this specific driver has been banned from the platform, the incident has left many DoorDash users questioning the safety and reliability of food delivery services. It also highlights the increasing role of home security technology in holding individuals accountable for their actions.
