Doug Ford’s Cabinet Member Kaleed Rasheed Resigns Over Greenbelt Controversy
The resignation of Kaleed Rasheed follows critical scrutiny from both CTV and The Trillium regarding the timeline of a trip to Las Vegas.
Kaleed Rasheed, a member of Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s cabinet and the Progressive Conservative caucus, has tendered his resignation, according to an announcement from Premier Ford’s office. The decision to step down is linked to an ongoing investigation conducted by the integrity commissioner concerning a controversial Greenbelt land exchange.
Premier Ford’s office has stated that should Rasheed be cleared of any wrongdoing by the integrity commissioner, he will be welcomed back into the caucus.
The resignation of Kaleed Rasheed follows critical scrutiny from both CTV and The Trillium regarding the timeline of a trip to Las Vegas. This trip became a focal point of the integrity commissioner’s inquiry into the Greenbelt land swaps.
During the course of the investigation, the integrity commissioner interviewed Rasheed about this Las Vegas excursion. The Trillium had previously reported that Shakir Rehmatullah, a developer who benefited from the Greenbelt land exchange, coincidentally visited Las Vegas at the same time as Rasheed, the premier’s principal secretary, and the current director of housing policy, who was employed in the private sector at the time.
Rasheed and the two members of the premier’s team informed the integrity commissioner that they indeed crossed paths with Rehmatullah in Las Vegas but emphasized that their trips were separate. However, CTV’s reporting raised questions, revealing that Rasheed, Rehmatullah, and the principal secretary had jointly scheduled massages during their stay in Las Vegas.
