Eight Vehicle Collision in Oakville, Six People Hospitalized
An eight-vehicle collision involving a school bus in Oakville sent six people to the hospital on Monday morning. One victim was sent to the trauma center and his condition is currently unknown. The road has been closed for investigation and officials have stated it will take some time to sort this out.
A school bus, a commercial vacuum truck, and multiple cars were involved in a collision on Highway 403 westbound ramp to Upper Middle Road around 8 a.m. on Monday. There were no children on the bus at the time of the accident. Six people were sent to the hospital and one of them was taken to a trauma center. At first, it was reported that seven vehicles were involved in the crash but was later updated to eight vehicles.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt shared that the vacuum truck collided with multiple vehicles. Photos from the scene show cars crumpled in the crash and debris scattered on the roadway. The area is under investigation and Burlington OPP is cleaning it up as well. “It will take some time to sort this out,” officer Schmidt said.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown and further information is expected on the condition of the victims.
Vehicle collisions have been on the rise in the past few months. Late last year, due to weather conditions, there were multiple collisions across Ontario and Canada in general. Because of icy conditions, a bus carrying over 50 passengers rolled over on Christmas eve leaving four people dead.
More recently, a 24-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries after a collision at Highway 403 near Highway 407 in Mississauga. The cause of the accident, however, is unclear.
