Environment Canada Issues Heat Wave Alert for Ontario, Urges Precautions to Beat the Heat
Environment Canada has issued a heat wave alert for most of Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, which is expected to continue until Thursday. According to the alert, the actual temperature will range between the high 20s and low 30s, with a humidex reaching the high 30s to low 40s.
While the extreme heat will affect everyone, certain groups, including young children, pregnant women, older adults, individuals with chronic illnesses, and outdoor workers, face greater risks. It is advised to take precautions to stay safe during this period.
Areas near Ontario’s lakes may experience relatively cooler temperatures compared to inland regions. Nevertheless, it is important to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to beat the heat.
Environment Canada urges Ontarians to exercise caution by staying hydrated, seeking cool places, and avoiding leaving people or pets inside parked vehicles. Heat warnings are issued by the weather agency when high temperatures pose an “elevated risk” of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
