Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is scheduled to hold an in-person meeting with the provincial and territorial finance ministers on Friday in Toronto.

The meeting is tabled to discuss a range of financial issues, including the challenges faced by the healthcare sector across the nation, the transition to a clean economy, and the current economic climate in Canada, according to media reports.

The meeting comes as Canadians continue to face heightened inflation and a surge in bank interest rates, with many opining that food prices are also likely to go up as the holiday freeze ends.

Last week saw the Bank of Canada raising its key interest rate once again to 4.5%. The recorded rate of inflation also stood at a whopping 6.3% in December of last year. The housing market in Canada also saw significant changes due to the increased inflation with the nation observing a decline in house sales and prices, while the average rent increased in 2022.
