Five Dead, Including Suspected Student Attacker, in Wisconsin School Shooting

Suspect found dead is believed to be a student at the school, police chief says

A tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School on Monday has claimed the lives of five people, including the suspected attacker, and left several others injured. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the devastating event, which has deeply shaken the Madison community.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes revealed during a press briefing that the death toll had risen to five, including the suspected shooter. Although the identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed, Barnes indicated that the attacker was likely a student at the school.

Officers responding to the scene provided emergency assistance but did not fire their weapons. Seven individuals were transported to local hospitals after receiving immediate medical care on-site.

“First responders acted quickly to provide life-saving measures to those injured,” Barnes stated, emphasizing the critical role of preparedness in such emergencies.

Law enforcement swiftly secured the area, blocking off roads surrounding the school. Federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives joined local authorities in the ongoing investigation.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers expressed his condolences in a statement: “We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information. We are grateful for the first responders who acted swiftly to protect lives.”

Abundant Life Christian School, a nondenominational institution with approximately 390 students ranging from kindergarten to high school, is a cornerstone of the local community.

Abundant Life Christian School posted a statement online asking for prayers after four people were killed during a shooting at the school Monday morning.

“Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS. We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able. Please pray for our Challenger Family,” the school posted.

Notably, Madison Police Department medics had been conducting a training exercise nearby when the shooting occurred. “They left the training center immediately and applied what they were practicing in real time,” Chief Barnes explained. The training facility is located just three miles from the school.

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the incident, according to a White House spokesperson. Senior officials are working closely with local authorities to provide any necessary support.

“The President has been briefed on the school shooting in Madison, Wisconsin. Senior White House officials are in touch with local counterparts in Madison to provide support as needed,” senior deputy press secretary Emilie Simons said.
