Former Akali Dal minister Jagdish Singh Garcha and wife drugged, house robbed
Ludhiana: Former Akali Dal minister Jagdish Singh Garcha along with his wife, sister and a domestic helper were found unconscious at his residence in Maharaja Ranjit Nagar at Pakhowal road of Ludhiana on Monday.
Police said that the house was ransacked and robbed. A male domestic help, who is missing after the incident, is the main suspect, said police.
Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO Sadar police station said that prima facie, a male domestic help served food laced with intoxicants to the family on Sunday night and fled with cash, jewellery and other valuables.
Garcha, his wife and two other women domestic helpers were found unconscious on Monday morning and were rushed to a hospital. Police said that a probe was initiated.
Garcha, a former SAD MLA from Kila Raipur of Ludhiana and once a staunch loyalist of Badals, remained cabinet minister in the SAD-BJP government. He was the minister for technical education and later was also arrested in an alleged corruption case by vigilance. In 2020, he left the party and joined its faction of rebels SAD (Sanyukt).
