Freezing Rain, Strong Winds Expected in Southern Ontario with Saturday Storm

A special weather statement has been issued for Toronto and Southern Ontario ahead of an expected storm on Saturday. Freezing rain and strong winds are expected to hit the areas but it is hard to pinpoint exactly which areas will be affected by the freezing rain and strong winds.

Environment Canada said in its advisory, “The active weather pattern of late continues this weekend, with the arrival of another storm system. Precipitation will likely begin as a period of freezing rain or a brief period of snow followed by a rapid transition to a period of freezing rain.”

The freezing rain is said to transition into showers or rain by the afternoon. Higher areas like Dundalk Highlands could also see a few millimeters of ice accretion.

The storm could also bring strong winds blowing as fast as up to 70 or 80 km/h and they could lead to local power outages.

“There remains uncertainty as to the exact location and timing of any freezing rain and the duration and location of the strongest winds. People are advised to monitor future forecasts for additional details,” Environment Canada added.

On Saturday, the highs are expected to reach 5 C while Sunday is expected to be cloudy with a 40 percent chance of flurries and a high of 5 C.
