Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the GTA and most of Southern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the GTA and most of Southern Ontario.

In its warning issued on Thursday, Environment Canada said, “Freezing rain, which may be mixed with ice pellets and snow, is expected to begin this morning.”

Because of the weather, slippery conditions are expected and the drivers and pedestrians are being advised to use extra caution and leave some extra time for travel.

The statement reads, “Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.”

The temperature near the lake is likely to remain above the freezing mark throughout the day.

In the afternoon, some fog patches can be expected. Flurries and drizzle will continue throughout the night, with a freezing drizzle on Friday morning.
