Gangster facing 67 FIRs shot dead in Barnala, Punjab encounter
Sangrur: A history-sheeter and gangster, Gurmeet Singh, alias Kala Dhanaula, was killed in an encounter with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) near Badbar village located on the Sangrur-Barnala road today. Two policemen were also injured in the encounter. Gurmeet was a resident of Dhanaula village in Barnala district.
Gurmeet along with three accomplices was in a field near Badbar village when the encounter took place between him and the AGTF. Gurmeet sustained serious injuries in the encounter and died. Sandeep Malik, SSP, Barnala
Barnala SSP Sandeep Malik said the encounter took place around 5 pm in a field near Badbar village. He said the police had information about Gurmeet, who was wanted in a case registered against him under Section 307, IPC, at Dhanaula in January. The police had laid nakas to arrest him.
The SSP further said Gurmeet along with three accomplices was in a field near Badbar village when the encounter took place between him and the AGTF. Gurmeet sustained serious injuries in the encounter and died. Inspector Pushpinder Singh and sub-inspector Jaspreet Singh were also seriously injured in the encounter. They were taken to the Civil Hospital, Barnala, for treatment, the SSP said. He said the police rounded up three accomplices of Gurmeet. Of them, the names of two were mentioned in the FIR registered against Gurmeet and others under Section 307, IPC, in January this year for opening fire and injuring Surinder Pal Bala, a Congress leader from Dhanaula.
There are 67 FIRs registered against Gurmeet. He was convicted in a case registered under Section 302, IPC, and was out on bail, the SSP said. It is learnt that the police recovered weapons and ammunition from the encounter site.
