GT20 Canada Teams Up with Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in Major Charity Initiative

This collaboration positions the foundation as the league’s Official Charity Partner, aiming to bolster the fight against cancer.

In response to cancer’s status as the leading cause of death in Canada, GT20 Canada, North America’s pioneering professional T20 cricket league, has announced a significant partnership with The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. This collaboration positions the foundation as the league’s Official Charity Partner, aiming to bolster the fight against cancer.

Under this new alliance, GT20 Canada is launching an impactful series of fundraising and awareness campaigns to support the foundation’s Cricket to Conquer Cancer initiative. The cornerstone of this effort is the ‘Hit Cancer for Six: $100 Donation Drive.’ For each six scored during the league matches, GT20 Canada has pledged to donate $100 CAD to the Cricket to Conquer Cancer campaign. Fans can track the total donations, which will be prominently displayed on the giant screen at the venue following each six, and occasionally at the end of each innings.

Gurmeet Singh Bhamrah, Founder of GT20 Canada, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “We are proud to support the prestigious Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in its outstanding and significant work. Our collaboration will leverage the growing popularity of cricket in Canada to foster community support and generate contributions for cancer research.”

In addition to this initiative, GT20 Canada is organizing a women’s T20 charity match on August 7, just before the league playoffs. All proceeds from this game will be directed towards the Cricket to Conquer Cancer effort. Steve Merker, Vice President of Corporate and Community Partnerships at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, highlighted the importance of this partnership: “The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation is thrilled to be the GT20 Canada tournament charity partner. As Canada’s largest growing sport, cricket is such an important part of our country’s athletic landscape. With 2 in 5 Canadians likely to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, breakthroughs made at The Princess Margaret are shared across Canada and globally. Your support at this tournament fuels crucial research for cancer patients here and around the world.”

Cricket fans can also contribute to this noble cause by adding a $6 CAD donation to their ticket purchases, supporting the Cricket to Conquer Cancer initiative.
