Gurujas Kaur Khalsa of White Sun Received Grammy Award for Mystic Mirror Album

Gurujas Kaur Khalsa from the band White Sun has won a Grammy for her chants in the album ‘Mystic Mirror’.  The album was awarded the Best New Age Album title at the Premiere ceremony of the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The band consists of three members, Adam Berry, Gurujas, and Harijiwan Singh.

The trio was present at the Premiere ceremony of the 65th Annual Grammy Awards where Gurujas Kaur Khalsa, one of the members of the White Sun band, received the award for Best New Age Album in the New Age, Ambient or Chant Category for the album ‘Mystic Mirror’. The album contains three shabads (prayers) from the Guru Granth Sahib.

Two of the hymns are from Guru Nanak’s Jap while the other is of Guru Arjan Dev. The two shabads are “Akhan jor chupai nahi jor” and “Pawan guru paani pita.” The third is from the Guru Granth Saheb composed by Guru Arjan Dev and is called “Naam Niranjan neer narayan.”

The band wrote on Twitter, “We just won a GRAMMY for our album “Mystic Mirror” in the New Age, Ambient or Chant Category. We want to thank the @recordingacademy not only for the beautiful awards ceremony but also for all the amazing work they do on behalf of music creators.”

On stage after receiving the award, Khalsa gave her acceptance speech and said, “it’s such a privilege, it’s such an honor, and with that privilege and with that honor comes with a responsibility really to bring more love and more kindness onto the planet Earth.” She added that through love and music, we can sing the world into a better place.

The band won a New Age Album Grammy back in 2017 as well for their album ‘White Sun II’.

Gurujas Khalsa is a turbaned Sikh of American origin. The band is known for transforming ancient yogic mantras into orchestrated pieces of music. Khalsa is the singer/songwriter, Harijiwan Khalsa is on the percussions, and Adam Berry is the producer/instrumentalist.
