Harry Rosen, Renowned Canadian Designer Dies At 92

Renowned Canadian designer Harry Rosen, celebrated for his contributions to men’s clothing and footwear, has passed away at the age of 92, according to a statement from his eldest son, Larry, who serves as the company’s chairman and CEO. Confirming the news with a sense of sorrow, Larry shared, “It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our founder and visionary Harry Rosen.”

Harry Rosen, a Toronto native, established Harry Rosen Inc. in Cabbagetown in February 1954, beginning with a modest $500 loan and a compelling vision. Larry acknowledged his father’s entrepreneurial spirit, stating, “Starting with a $500 loan and a dream, Harry willed his business into existence one client at a time.”

Reflecting on Harry’s significant impact, Larry emphasized his father’s infectious passion for menswear and fashion, noting that Harry’s “ability to teach and inspire were unparalleled.” The statement expressed gratitude for the enduring legacy Harry leaves behind, spanning the nation, three generations, and nearly seven decades. Larry stated, “The team he built and the values he instilled have helped the business span across the country, three generations, and nearly 70 years. Words simply can’t summarize the impact he had on us all.”

In addition to his accomplishments in the fashion industry, Harry Rosen was a notable philanthropist, actively supporting various causes and charitable organizations. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Order of Canada in 2004.

Survived by his wife and partner of 68 years, Evelyn, as well as his four children, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a vast network of family and friends, Harry Rosen’s legacy extends far beyond his professional achievements, encapsulating a life rich in family and community.
