Heavy Rainfall After Snow Storm, New Weather Advisory For Brampton And Mississauga
"Significant Rainfall" on Tuesday and Wednesday (January 9-10, 2024)
A new weather advisory has been issued by Environment Canada for Mississauga and Brampton. The current winter weather travel advisory remains in effect for both cities, but now, a rainfall warning has been added, anticipating “significant rainfall” on Tuesday and Wednesday (Jan. 9-10).
According to Environment Canada, the frozen ground’s diminished capacity to absorb this rainfall poses potential hazards, including rainfall amounts ranging from 20 to 35 millimetres and the formation of water ponds on roads.
The anticipated rainfall is scheduled to commence on Tuesday afternoon and persist until late Tuesday evening or overnight into Wednesday, as per Environment Canada’s forecast.
The warning notes, “Snow associated with a storm system is expected to move into portions of southern Ontario through the day. The snow will change to rain in the afternoon or early evening.”
There is a possibility of localized flooding in low-lying areas, and the warning highlights the potential for flash floods and water pooling on roads due to heavy downpours.
Environment Canada cautions, “With the substantial rainfall, keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks.”
