Highway 407 ETR to Implement Fare Hike and New Toll Zones in 2025
Additional charges, such as camera fees, account fees, and transponder leases, will also rise for the first time in five years.
Starting January 1, 2025, Highway 407 ETR users will face increased toll fares, along with additional fees and a revamped zone structure. The operator is introducing 12 toll zones, up from the current four, while also implementing updated vehicle classifications to better reflect road usage and environmental impact.
From Four to 12 Zones
The highway’s 108-kilometre stretch will soon be divided into 12 toll zones, allowing for variable pricing tailored to specific sections. This strategic change aims to manage traffic flow more effectively, especially during peak hours.
New Vehicle Classifications
The updated rate structure includes new categories to ensure fair pricing for different vehicle types:
-
Motorcycles: 0.8x the light vehicle rate.
-
Medium Vehicles: Includes larger SUVs, pickup trucks, and vans towing trailers, charged at 1.5x the light vehicle rate.
-
Heavy Single Units: 2x the light vehicle rate.
-
Heavy Multiple Units: 3x the light vehicle rate.
Light vehicles, including cars, vans, and small pickup trucks, remain the baseline category.
Fare and Fee Adjustments
Light vehicle tolls will increase by 3 to 14 cents per kilometre, depending on the zone and time of travel. Additional charges, such as camera fees, account fees, and transponder leases, will also rise for the first time in five years.
For personal transponder users, these changes will result in an average monthly bill increase of around $8. The annual transponder lease fee will rise to $29.50 plus tax, with secondary transponders available for $11.95 plus tax each.
